The Southern Movement organized a massive demonstration in the city of Lauder, on Thursday morning, to mark the weekly "Southern Prisoner's Day", in conjunction with the celebrations of southern anniversary of the "disengagement", the term used by the southerners to name the day when the Southern leader "Ali Salem Al-Beedh " declared the state of "People's Democratic Republic of Yemen", on May 21, 1994, during the war waged by the North against the south in 1994.
The protesters waved flags of the People's Democratic Republic of Yemen, green flags, and banners denouncing what they called the "occupation".
In Abyan too, protesters wandered around the streets of Al-Mahfed, raising flags of former South Yemen, green flags, and photographs of the former South Yemeni president Ali Salem Al-Beedh.
Speakers stressed in their speeches that "the people of the south in favor of declaring the disengagement delivered by the President Ali Salem Al-Beedh, on May 21, 1994, which its sixteenth anniversary will be marked on Friday" as they described.
They also demanded the United Nations organizations and the Arab League to support the South in "self-determination" and their right of freedom and independence.
Calling for the "respect the southern people's desire, which calls for independence, for nearly four years, and will continue to serve its purposes". |
